Good Gravy...We had Fun.

So the book fair was so FUN! Spence couldn't go because of soccer, but the girls and I had a grand time. Here the girls are with Brandon Mull, author of Fabelhaven and The Candy Shop War. He and his family lived in our ward in Thousand Oaks, back in the day. So great to see his success!
The girls did all sorts of kid-licious things like: face painting, bookmark making, puppetshows, prizes, free books, and having a caricuture created by a published illustrator.
Shannon Hale was very sweet to my girls and Grace was able to wax philosophical on her own writings. Grace also informed my friend Carol Lynch Williams that Grace has written 8 books to my 1. I know, she's fast! :)

Bravo to Provo City Library for putting on such a fabulous event!

Spencer's very favorite author, Brandon Mull will be there (Fablehaven) and Shannon Hale (Newbery Award Winner for Princess Academy) will be there too...along with many other talents authors. Check it out here if you're interested. It's FREE. And we are loving FREE things these days, let me tell you! :)

Grace's Big Break with Ann Dee Ellis cont...

Here is Grace. She likes to write and read. To hear what she has to say about, well, everything check out www.anndeeellis.com. Click on "Reader of the Week #10." And here is Ann Dee's most recent book: I think it's a great read for middle grade/young adult.

The Perfect Nest

So, where would you say the "perfect nest" resides? A tree house, a baseball glove, an old red sweater? Sophie brought home this charming little book by Catherine Friend that she just LOVED...and I loved it too....UNTIL---

This happened:
Sophie decided she wanted to hatch a chicken of her own...right in her own comfortable bed. So (while I'm sure I was doing something very important) she got an egg from the fridge, tucked it safely under her pillow, and went to sleep...so excited to wake-up in the morning to find her very own baby chick.

Whoops...

It seems that's not quite how it works. Poor Soph...she was very disappointed. And I had a hard time being upset with her...because it was SO EXCEPTIONALLY FUNNY!

Who says books don't affect kids? Not me.
