Totally in LOVE...

With Cancun. Adam had business there and I got to tag along. One word: Heavenly!

I'm counting the days until we can go back.

We had to be careful of the Chupacabra! And we would've gotten away with it, if it wasn't for those meddling kids. (I know you've seen that Scooby Doo episode :))

Flying by....

Does it ever feel like maybe life is like a big bag of Hershey's Chocolate Eggs (you know, the pastel ones, with the crunchy shell?). The ones that maybe survive a mere 45 minutes in the White House because they are wolfed down by the kids. Who am I kidding? Kids, shmids. It's really me. The kids don't even know they exist. I wolf them down before anyone has a chance.

Anyway. Like I said. Life is like those Easter Eggs, they go too fast. And lately, I've been feeling it sublimely.

Grace had her America play this week. She had a violin solo and a Scottish dance (thus her costume). I think I was more nervous than she was.

Then we had a fun day at The Children's Museum. I'm so glad my big kids still haven't grown out of it yet. They prefer to go up stairs and build all sorts of things. How sad it will be when they're like, "Mom! We want to go to the mall--WITHOUT you." I remember when I said it to my mom. She let me go only if she was allowed to walk 15 feet behind me.

And Spencer qualified to go to the BYU Ballroom dance competition for his school! He did so great, and I was amazed as I watched 200 elementary school kids out on the floor doing the SWING. Wish I could do it. And wished we still all danced like that. Here we are at, (where else?), The Brick Oven to celebrate his 2nd place silver status for his elementary school. Spence competed in the Tango and the Cha-Cha.

Grace and her friends dressed Lucy up in a tropical look.

And here we are at BYU again. This time for the Regional Science Fair. Spencer had a great day missing school (!!) and competing in the Science Fair. With 900 students from the state of Utah in attendance we fully did not expect to win a thing. BUT. He did! I wasn't even paying attention when they called his name. But Spence won 4th place in the Life Science Division, which came with a trophy, a certificate, and a check for $15! Way to go. We still have no idea how all that happened so we'll just enjoy it. I guess next year the pressure's on for GRACE. Hah. Not really. Well. Who knows. Maybe Spence has raised the bar for the whole family.

Science Fair...For Real?

So Spence got to go to The School District Science Fair(!)

He won first place at his elementary school...and then moved on to District. He wanted to win sooo bad. Before hand, we tried to let him down easy and say that he probably wouldn't win at District and he should just be happy to have won at his Elementary School.

But guess what? He won at the District Science Fair too!! (150 kids out of 350 get to move on to BYU).

We couldn't believe it. You can just imagine how stoked he was. He said, "It was the best day of my life..." So far. Officially, there are a lot of really great days ahead, but we'll let him soak this one up. Also, had to laugh at this picture. Apparently the "ladies" come out of the woodwork when one is dubbed a "winner." :)

So it's off the the regional Science Fair at BYU. Nine hundred kids will be there, he gets to miss school, and allegedly there is a climbing wall, a flight simulator, and an "awesome" lunch to go along with it. We'll see. But this kid couldn't possibly get more excited.

By the way, did we do this in California? I don't even remember doing a Science Fair Project. Wait...yes I do. I did something about seeds, and growing stuff, and uhm. Clearly I wasn't a contender to win the Science Fair (thus my whole English Major degree). I'm sure they had things like this when I was younger, but I wasn't involved at all. Anyone else win a Science Fair? I am in awe. xojen

We survived the Virgin Islands

(At the "Pirate Party" on the Disney Magic)
We just got home from Adam's reward trip to the Virgin Islands on the Disney Magic. I know. Kind of weird to take a bunch of adults on a Disney Cruise without their children, but oh well. We still had so much fun. See...isn't this fun? The towel monkey left in our stateroom. A new fun towel animal every night!
We visited St. Maartan, St. Thomas, and the Disney Island. So, now for a little known fact: I get seasick! This was my first (and maybe last) time on a cruise. And, oh I was sick! Also, it seemed that we had rough seas as well, far rougher than any they had had in months. So, lucky us. Every time we made port, I was thrilled. I did not want to get back on that gigantic floating, nauseous mobile. But. I had too.

We went snorkeling on St. Maartan, and saw, well, nothing. Okay. Maybe a few little fish, but they had just had a storm and the water was cloudy. So, the captain of the Mirabel took us to a beach to play in the sand for a while. Also, the beach was full of topless women! Interesting, right? And on our way back to the cruise ship a boat full of nudist buzzed our boat. Luckily all is saw was what looked like a lot of skin...and a couple of butts. Some of our friends saw way more than that. So on the down side, we didn't see local sea life, but on the upside (???) we got a glimpse of unusual local behavior!
I loved St. Thomas and would go back their in a heart beat. We rented scooters and explored every nook and crany of the island (all while driving on the wrong side of the road! Ugh.) I cannot believe we didn't get in an accident. The water was amazing: warm, clear, and beautiful. My favorite by far.

The food was constant and amazing! And guess what? Adam and I both gained 6 (count them!) pounds! Ugh. No one can accuse us of not taking advantage of the food.
They had some pretty funny shows at night. Adam was apart of the magic show. But almost hurt his knee AGAIN with the weird kind of stance he had to take.

Playing Catch Up...January Style

Time for me to catch up on the month of January. First, Spencer and Grace had a ballroom dance competition. They both did great, although, Grace was not happy with her performance. And Spencer moved on to the UVU competition, while Grace didn't. It was hard to teach her that sometimes certain events don't turn out the way you would like. Chalk this experience up to learning how to weather dissapointment. It hurt my heart to have to help her through this, but better now than when she's twenty.

Lucy LOVES her gymnastics class. She attends every week with her little friend Peachy. "Nastics" is her favorite.

Here Lucy got ready all by herself. Wow! Trying to love her look, with the panties on top of the leotard. Maybe she's staring a new trend.

And we celebrated Grandpa's birthday! The kids love celebrating his birthday because they all get a turn blowing out his candles, again and again.
Our Valentines treasure hunt.
Grandma Char made Lucy her very own sock doll. Now she has one like her older siblings.
And we had a great time at Color Me Mine for family night. I loved watching what the kids created...Lucy's was especially cute. She really painted her little puppy to death.
